Signpost provides counselling in a way that meets the needs of young people as defined by themselves. Our services are:
Self-referral only: appointments can only be booked by the client themselves (except 11-13 year-olds whose parents can book appointments for them)
Free to the client
Completely confidential; we will not share anything with parents, a doctor or anyone else without a client’s permission or legally required to do so
Provided in discrete, private locations in the community
Driven by the clients themselves, not their parents or a professional
Delivered by a fully professional staff who have current CRB checks
Our style of service particularly suits young people who need extra privacy and confidentiality or do not want to use public services because they:
Do not want their parents to know (eg victims of abuse in the home)
Want more privacy than school or GP surgery offers (eg victims of bullying)
Are in opposition to authority (eg young offenders or in conflict with school)
Do not trust the ‘system’ (eg excluded from school or care leavers)
Do not engage with the ‘system’ (eg not registered with a GP, young people not in education or employment)
